Righteousness and the Spiritual Immune System

Psalm 14

^v2 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there were any who understood, dealt wisely, andsought after God, inquiring for and of Him and requiring Him [of vital necessity].

v5 "...for God is with the generation of the [uncompromisingly] righteous (those upright and in right standing with Him)."

Background: Recently at our home we have had a bout with HFMD(Hand Foot Mouth Disease) oh yes there is a disease like that! Though not a major type of disease it is highly contagious and can spread through anyone infected, by their mucus or saliva or liquid from the blisters if they are popped. So in order to contain the situation we have been literally bathing ourselves in sanitizers and washing our hands in a frenzy. For an average healthy person HFMD may or may not show it symptoms but it can take a serious turn if someone who's immune system is compromised contracts it.

If you have a terrific immune system you may or may not get sick very easily. Even if some virus manages to attack your immune system, God has created us in such an awesome way that our body can develop antibodies and fight back. Once we have won this immunological battle, the next time the same virus comes around our body(WBC) can say "Hey! Didn't I beat you already? Get outtahere!"

Lesson : Righteousness is something like the immune system for our spiritual life. When we work to guard our spiritual life, when we feed on the healthy Word of God, when we drink from the streams of Living Water, when we keep washing ourselves in the Word of God and keep ourselves away from the germ/virus of iniquity and sin, our Righteousness which is available through our Lord Jesus gets a major boost. We are easily spottable by God coz we'll be the healthy ones in the midst of a sick crowd. We shall show no symptoms of any disease. Now when sin comes to lure us, the righteousness of God in us will immediately send out an alert to our spiritual system and we can abort any interaction with sin. If however we do not listen and knowingly compromise our spiritual immune system, we automatically open ourselves to getting sick with sin.

Conclusion : The one thing God has been asking us to seek is this - "His Kingdom" and "His Righteousness" (Matthew 6:33) Everything else is given or added unto us as a result of pursuing God's righteousness (getting in right standing or reconciling with God) and we don't need to pursue them. Faith is given to us, Healing is given to us, Gifts of the Spirit is given to us but Righteousness needs training and pursuit (2 Timothy 3:16). Let us then pursue righteousness and set up the groundwork for God to come down and live with us and let us really begin being ALIVE in this dead world. (Romans 8:10)
