God's Will and God's Word

Sometimes we're so quick in trying to grab the Promises in the Word of God, without actually checking our lives and seeing if we're even fit for it. The Promises in the Word of God are for us, but that doesn't mean, we twist God's arm and say "God You promised in the Word, so You'll have to do it" But we should remember who God is Ecclesiastes 5:2 "Be not rash with your mouth, and let not your heart be hasty to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few." God is not at our beck and call, oh yes He does answer our prayers and our call, when we pray according to His Word and His Will.
In 2 Samuel 7 we read of some awesome promises God gave to David, a set of promises, anyone one of us might want to "covet". However I wanted to know one thing, David had not asked God to make him king, neither to give him a palace, neither to give him faithful servants. Atleast I did not come across any verse so far, that David prayed hard,pleaded even, to gain the kingdom. The words from David's prayer, after he heard of God's Promises to him, that caught my attention were "21 For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant. "

  1. David was conformed to God's Will for his life-Romans 12:2"Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. " This verse, as I read it, does not say conform God to our will, but as we have to be conformed to God's will.
  2. David honoured God's Word-22For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.(2 Samuel 22:22) David was keeping God's will, not the other way round!!!
  3. God's will through God's Word for us, is a proof of God's love for us-It is to prove to us, not to God, that God is faithful. What were we thinking? 1 John 2:29 "If you know (perceive and are sure) that He [Christ] is [absolutely] righteous [conforming to the Father's will in purpose, thought, and action], you may also know (be sure) that everyone who does righteously [and is therefore in like manner conformed to the divine will] is born (begotten) of Him [ God]. David proved it to himself and for us, that God's Word is to be trusted and God's will is perfect. "31As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried. He is a Shield to all those who trust and take refuge in Him."
  4. David's secret to his victorious life-Psalm 119:11 "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." The Bible says, "The LORD gave David victory wherever he went."(2 Samuel 8:6, 2 Samuel 8:14, 1 Chronicles 18:6, 1 Chronicles 18:13). You might come into God's kingdom as a loser, but you never remain a loser. When David started his journey, post his anointing as king, he didn't have much, he was running away from a king trying to kill him, staying in caves, even acted like a mad man for fear of being captured, though he started of with all that...today we know him as king. Moreover, God has promised to establish his kingdom forever.

Conclusion:Let's go back to the way God intended His Kingdom to be in the first place. Jesus taught us to pray "Our Father in heaven hallowed by Your Name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven...." We've got to get back to God's Will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Thats what David recognised and followed. God's will, and the blessings just came chasing him and ran him over. Isn't that the kind of life all believers in the Living God should be living. We shouldn't be chasing the blessings, we should be making room for God's Will and God's Word to be done in our lives and on this earth, like David did, and the rest will all fall in place. The Word of God says "Romans 12:2 "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.". David tried and saw that God's Will definitely is good, pleasing and perfect. Now you try it!!!

I think we can only be conformed to God's will when we come to see the privilege of the heavenly position in which we are placed.

Colossians 3
1 "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Ps. 110.1

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory."

Ephesians 2
11 ¶ "Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

12 that at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

13 but now, in Christ Jesus, ye who sometime were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

15 having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; Col. 2.14 for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

16 and that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, Col. 1.20 having slain the enmity thereby:

17 and came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. Is. 57.19

18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

20 and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

21 in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord:

22 in whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit."

Every Blessing in Christ

-Hey Dyspraxic Fundamentalist, So glad you came by, you've definitely caught the essence of my post. We seldom realise the BIG GOD Who helps us and makes us..its the realisation that David had, of A Living God, working in His Life that helped him to surrender so completely to God's will and be a blessing to so many. Thank you so much for adding valuable thoughts to my post. Much appreciated.

God Bless.
